Energy system: In search of alternative energy sources

Energy system power is the main driver of human civilization. People produce mainly through energy. The main driving force of all work is the energy system. But the storage of conventional energy sources is very limited and due to overuse, the reserves are running out. So it is very important to find new sources of energy to protect the next generation. Scientists have already engaged in various researches in search of alternative sources of energy. This year's Science World event has been arranged with these potential energy sources of the future.

  • Nuclear power
  • Energy from currents and flowing water
  • Domestic solar power
  • Solar farm
  • Domestic wind power
  • Wind farm
  • Geothermal energy
  • Electric car
  • Hydrogen transport
  • Changes in the thermal energy of the ocean

Nuclear power

Nuclear power is used as a source of electricity generation energy system. It is possible to produce huge amounts of energy from a small nuclear power plant. The amount of heat that is generated in a nuclear fission or fusion system is used to evaporate water in a nuclear power plant. The heated steam rotates the turbine, and as the turbine rotates, so does the connected generator. And as result electricity can be generated. However, as complex and costly as this system is, any kind of carelessness can seriously pollute the environment.

Energy from currents and flowing water

Electricity can be generated from water currents or flowing water energy systems. It is possible to generate electricity by turning turbines by exploiting rivers, seas and even tidal currents and creating artificial waterways like canals. There is no possibility of any kind of pollution.

Domestic solar power

The sun is the source of the all energy system. The solar system converts its photovoltaic cells into electrical energy. Solar water heaters use heat collector panels to heat water. Solar energy is endless, completely environmentally friendly and renewable. An example illustrates the enormous potential of solar energy derived from solar radiation. The amount of energy needed in a year in the entire United States can be obtained from the amount of solar radiation that falls on that country in thirty-two minutes. But the appropriate technology to make the solar energy obtained from solar radiation usable has not been implemented yet. However, in developed countries, extensive research is being done on how to use solar energy properly.

Solar farm

It is possible to generate a lot of electricity from solar farms in two ways. First, the sunlight is concentrated in the solar panels with the help of mirrors. In this method, the turbine is rotated with steam generated from water. Second, electricity is generated directly from solar energy using light cells.

However, there are some problems with this method. Because the sun does not stay in the sky forever. It cannot be supplied at night or on a cloudy day. In addition, there are investment problems. Because it takes a lot of money to build such a farm.

Domestic wind power

To supply electricity to each house, small size turbines can be installed from house to house to generate electricity. It is possible to generate 1-25 kilowatts of electricity from such passant. By installing a 10 to 25 diameter fan on a 60 feet tower with wind power, it is possible to light a lamp and do other work including running a water motor. However, the biggest problem is noise pollution.

Wind farm

The first centre to generate electricity from wind energy was established in Denmark (in 1890). The world's largest wind-powered generator is currently being powered by wind power in the United States. The country generates 1600 MW of electricity using wind power. Wind power is targeted to meet one-fifth of US total demand by 2030. Again, twenty per cent of Denmark's total energy is met using wind power. This source of energy is environmentally friendly and renewable. However, turbines powered by such wind farms obstruct the movement of birds, which is detrimental to the local environment.

Geothermal energy

There is a lot of energy stored under the earth's crust. Geothermal energy is currently one of the major sources of electricity generation. This geothermal energy can be used to generate electricity and keep homes and roads warm. At present, about eight thousand megawatts of geothermal energy is being generated all over the world. Of this, only two thousand eight hundred megawatts are being generated in America. Iceland collects most of the energy used to generate electricity and heat homes from geothermal energy sources. New Zealand and Italy collect 11 per cent and 3 per cent of their total energy, respectively, from geothermal energy. It is eco-friendly and can provide a power supply day and night. However, in this method, one has to invest a huge amount of money before generating electricity.

Electric car

Electric cars do not emit any kind of smoke. And its maintenance cost is also very low. However, commercial companies are thinking of making it more technologically advanced for widespread use.

Hydrogen transport

Hydrogen is produced by the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen in the fuel cell. It runs on an electric motor. Water is emitted from such engines. However, this technology has some problems. Natural gas has to be used to produce large amounts of hydrogen, leaving some potential for carbon production.

Changes in the thermal energy of the ocean

Due to the effect of solar radiation, it is possible to generate electricity through special technology from the difference between the water temperature of the surface of the sea and the water of the lower part. The technology for generating electricity from the thermal inequality of ocean water is called tech technology. If this energy could be fully converted into electricity, it would be twenty times more than the electricity we use every day.

As the demand for electricity increases day by day, if fossil fuels continue to generate electricity without restraint, the world's fossil fuel reserves will surely run out in the coming days. In that case, dependence on alternative sources for power generation will continue to increase soon. Although there are some complications and problems in using alternative energy sources, these energy sources will be considered as the main energy sources of the future. And people have to prepare for it now.
